Thumbs Up for SharkBite
(26/7/2006)
Copper plumbing repair and maintenance work is now easier and simpler thanks to SharkBite, the new push-fit joining system for copper tube.
Released on the market late last year, SharkBite has built a reputation as a professional and convenient product for plumbers.
“We were one of the first stores to stock SharkBite and it has since generated considerable interest, particularly from plumbers doing renovation work,” says Anthony Smith, Manager of Randwick Tradelink.
“It’s cheaper for plumbers to fix a plumbing problem by buying this fitting than it is for them to drag out their oxyacetylene bottles and start welding.
“It’s a simple system because all they have to do is deburr the copper pipe, slip the SharkBite fitting on, and away they go.”
SharkBite fittings simply push onto the prepared copper tube end. An internal O-ring provides a high pressure, watertight seal, while the SharkBite teeth retain the tube. They are fully self-contained with no additional components to fit or adjust and are available to cater for most standard connection requirements for copper tubes up to 1” diameter.
“The cost of SharkBite is offset by the huge payoff for installation. It is not the best solution for plumbing a whole house, but it is ideal for houses that need extension or refurbishment, where copper plumbing already exists.
“SharkBite can be used for external taps or off a hot water system, and will cater to most standard connection requirements,” says Anthony.
“Plumbers doing one-inch fittings for councils also like SharkBite because it’s fast and easy to use, and in their line of work it’s more about the time than the expense.”
SharkBite fittings are manufactured in Australia using durable, corrosion resistant DR brass. They are completely compatible with existing copper installations and are guaranteed against faulty materials and manufacture for 25 years.
SharkBite can be purchased at Tradelink and independents throughout Australia.
