SA Apprentice Plumber Award
(29/6/2009)
At only 19-years-old, TAFE South Australia’s Apprentice Plumber of the Year demonstrates a natural aptitude for his chosen career. Clint Guy was recently presented “Best Common Units in Certificate III Plumbing”, an award sponsored by the Copper Development Centre to recognise excellence in apprentice plumbers.
Growing up in Echunga, a small town in the Adelaide Hills, Clint decided to take up an offer of a plumbing apprentice by a local family friend as he could see that plumbing offered the kind of hands-on, outdoors work he was drawn to.
His employer, Michael Vears, has nothing but praise for his apprentice, describing him as well-mannered and punctual, with a good head for solving problems.
“He can use his brain – when there is a problem on the job he doesn’t run to me to work out how to fix it, he uses his initiative to work it out,” says Michael Vears, owner of Vears Plumbing. His TAFE lecturers are equally impressed, describing Clint as attentive and personable, with a strong commitment to his study and an adherence to deadlines.
Clint admits to enjoying his study and the knowledge it gives him of the many different facets of plumbing work. With another two years to go on his apprenticeship he is happy to keep learning both on the job and in the classroom.
